At St Joachim’s School and across BCE, religious Education has been contextualised in two distinct and complementary dimensions outline in the diagram below.
Model for Religious Education
We are mindful of the multi-faith community in which we live and as such, teaching people religion and teaching people to be religious draw upon the Catholic Christian tradition in ways that are respectful and inclusive. The BCE Religious Education Curriculum states it is important that;
'.......school communities seek to understand and utilise the distinctiveness and complimentarity of these two dimensions of religious education in holistic education and the formation of students. School programs, activities and experiences for the classroom learning and teaching of religion and the religious life of the school are responsive to religious diversity, while being faithful to the Catholic Christian Identity."
At St Joachim's School, our students will be involved in Religious Education classes each week, as well as various prayer opportunities both as a class and as a whole school community. This includes prayer before meals, prayer at the beginning and end of the day, Opening School Mass, Ash Wednesday and our school feast day, 'The Feast of St Joachim and St Anne', where grandparents are welcomed into the school for the day.
